The LiteOn L8T-128L9G (128 GB) cannot be exchanged. That was very different in the Switch 11 Pro: The HDD achieved only 33 MB/s in the same test. Consequently, files can be moved between both internal storage devices quickly, and programs are loaded from the HDD at the speed that we are used to from laptops. 118 MB/s in read/write are extremely fast for a simple 5400-rpm model. The WD5000LPVX (WD Blue Mobile) with a height of 7 mm (~0.27 in) is connected to SATA 6 GB/s via USB 3.0 controller in the dock.

The HDD can be replaced since it is situated inside the dock that can be opened after releasing some screws. Roughly, 552 GB is available on both storage devices in total at the state of delivery. The LiteOn SSD (L8H-128V2G) and Western Digital HDD (WD5000LPVX-22V0TT0) result in an effective pair in terms of speed and storage capacity. The magnetic connection is strong, though not powerful enough for all cases of gravity. The dock does not fall off when the only tablet is lifted. This can be a catastrophe when the tablet shatters if it falls to the floor from a height of 1.5 meters (~5 ft). This solution without a locking lever has a disadvantage: During the test, the tablet accidentally fell out of the dock 2 - 3 times while picking it up for changing our location. However, the tablet is now located deeper into the hinge and thus has more support. The basic concept of the magnetically supported mount without a locking lever is the same as in the former Switch 11 Pro of late 2014. Unfortunately, the dock does not have a power socket.Īcer uses a new version of the click-in hinge. The hard drive is installed here, and a USB 3.0 port supplements the tablet's downscaled interfaces. The lid is patterned with a rather sleek plastic edge that conceals the radio antennas.Īlthough the base is made of plastic, it is decently stable and robust but sounds slightly hollow. Thanks to the brushed aluminum on the back, the feel is cool and high quality. The tablet's body is made of metal and plastic, which gives a very robust and stable impression. Can Acer uphold the old virtues while eliminating the drawbacks? Find out in this review update. The FHD IPS TFT remains, but the digitizer pen has been omitted, and the entirely reworked chassis is now based on the Broadwell Core M (also fanless). Now Acer is going into the second round with the Aspire Switch 11V SW5-172-614T. The drawback was the build quality for the 900 Euros (~$994) price range we were not happy with the stability, feel and feedback of the chassis and input devices. Our verdict concerning the Switch 11 Pro at the time: A successful bundle composed of (fanless) performance, very good screen (digitizer display including stylus), and practical connectivity. They need a decent keyboard, a very good screen, at least moderate computing power, and plenty of storage if possible.
#Aspire switch 10 vs 11 professional
The 11.6-inch device presented an exquisite configuration from a technical point of view: FHD screen (IPS), genuine SSD, Core i5, keyboard and hard drive - the bundle primarily appealed to buyers who mainly use their convertibles for professional purposes. For the original German review, see here.Ī new take! A year ago, in late 2014, we tested the Aspire Switch 11 Pro with a 128 GB SSD + hard drive in the keyboard unit extensively.
